Solar Farm on land to the West of Parrox Lane

Where is the proposed Solar Farm?

The project is situated on land west of Parrox Lane, Newton-with-Scales, Lancashire. The proposed site covers approximately 32.1 hectares of agricultural land.

Following a thorough and wide-ranging land search, this site was chosen for its seclusion, relatively poor soil quality and access to the grid. The site is located within the open countryside and is characterised as a series of agricultural fields in arable use. The parcels of land are typically bound by hedgerows, mature trees and agricultural tracks which provide excellent natural screening.

In addition to solar panels, the proposal includes biodiversity and landscape enhancement measures, such as new hedgerow planting and gapping up of existing hedgerows, helping to minimise visual and environmental impacts. Once the solar panels become operational, sheep can be introduced to graze the vegetation under the panels, offering dual use of the land.

Introducing Solar Farm on land West of Parrox Lane

Bluefield Renewable Developments Ltd has submitted a planning application to Fylde Council for a solar farm on land west of Parrox Lane, Newton-with-Scales, Lancashire. The application has been validated and has been given the following planning reference: 24/0541. The planning application can be accessed here.

The solar farm would have an approximate capacity of 25 MW. The proposed development would create enough renewable energy to meet the annual electricity needs of approximately 7,500 homes. It would also offset approximately 5,600 tonnes of CO2 each year, the equivalent to taking around 2,500 cars off the road each year.

The benefits

• It will assist Fylde Council in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with national targets in response to the Climate Emergency.

• It will contribute towards the security of energy supply in Fylde through the provision of local renewable energy.

• Careful consideration has been given to the development to avoid effects on landscape, heritage or ecological designations.

• Public rights of way will be unaffected by the operational solar farm.

• A community fund will be established to invest in local projects and initiatives.

• It will have a significant positive
net biodiversity impact. Ecological enhancements being considered include tree planting, strengthening of exisiting hedgerows, planting of wildflower areas together with bird boxes, beehives and bat boxes.

• This is a temporary development, allowing the land to rest for the period of operation up to 40 years.

• Decommissioning and full restoration of the site at the end of life of the development will be secured via planning condition.

• The proposed solar farm will not require Government subsidy.
